Meet Nicole

Nicole wasn’t always a runner.  In fact, if you had asked her when she was younger if she thought she’d ever run a marathon, she probably would have said you were crazy.  It wasn’t until Nicole was 26 and dating an Army man, that she felt the need to take up running.  She credits that man, now her husband, with inspiring her to embrace a more fit lifestyle.

Over the next 20 years, Nicole’s military family would move often.  Running became a consistent factor in her life.  She would complete 7 marathons in cities from Zurich to San Francisco.  It didn’t all happen at once, though.

Nicole recalls her first run was simply one block. “It’s a matter of every week, increasing a little bit more.  Five minutes more this week.  Another 5 minutes next week.  Anybody can do this, if you put your mind to it.”

Last year, Nicole qualified for Boston in the New Jersey marathon.  She was heartbroken to later discover that she had missed the cut off by just 43 seconds.  Now, with another chance at Boston, Nicole sums it up as “just a celebration of everything that I’ve achieved.”
