Robin Robbins

Civil engineer who races for others aims for a more personal feat

Meet Robin

Robin would tell you that he’s not out to inspire anyone in particular.  Though you’d be hard pressed not to be inspired.  At age 61, he’s run over 25 half marathons and 5 full marathons, and he only started running 11 years ago.  What prompted him to put on his running shoes at the age of 50? Robin uses each race to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  Now captain of his St. Jude running group, Robin’s team has raised over $175,000.

Robin wants to tell “anyone who might think, ‘I can’t do that,’ to just get up and walk around the block.  Do something to go farther than you think can go, whatever that is.”

When preparing for a marathon, Robin estimates that he runs 500 miles during training.  Boston has been his goal for some time but as he puts it, “I never thought I’d be able to qualify for Boston.”  This year, he qualified for Boston but missed the cut off by 1 second.  Now that he’s back on the road to Boston, Robin can’t wait to put in those 500 miles.  For someone who has run for so many others, this may the first race he runs simply for himself.
